Dear members and partners of the Green Alliance Kyrgyzstan, and supporters of green initiatives,

With a little time left, we are saying goodbye to the year 2022 with 365 days spent in hard work, daily routine and pleasant and happy moments with your colleagues, friends and beloved ones.

This has been a very active year for both the Green Alliance members and the executive body. Each of our members has done a lot of work, and we appreciate everyone’s contributions and thank them for being active in our commonly shared mission.

The executive body has actively sought out and established new ways to collaborate, bringing in new members and partners whose activities are consistent with the mission of the Green Alliance KG. There were indeed many events and they were published on our online platforms throughout the year, but it is worth noting the significant ones.

Members of the Green Alliance KG have developed and sent an appeal with recommendations on smog in Bishkek to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ministry of Energy and Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Mayor’s Office of Bishkek, as it is important to take urgent measures to improve air quality for the health of the nation and there is no time for delays. We call officials to acknowledge that air pollution in Bishkek is grave and Green Alliance KG can advice proper measures to be taken if there is a political will.

We also sent an appeal regarding the signing of an agreement with Rosatom for a feasibility study for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kyrgyzstan to the Ministry of Energy and Industry and the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic. In a country with enormous hydro resources and the potential to provide energy through untapped opportunities (the country uses only 10% of its hydro potential) and the growing capacity of the country to introduce renewable energy sources, the construction of a nuclear power plant is, at a minimum, a hasty conclusion.

Members of the Green Alliance presented the National Position on Climate Change and appealed to the President and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic with a proposal to take urgent measures to improve the climate and social situation in the country, as well as to acknowledge the significant role of civil society as partners in this process.

We also worked on the issue of tax exemptions for the import and use of green technologies, and developed 12 green measures in agricultural sector and the Ministry of Agriculture submitted them to the Cabinet of Ministers for further implementation.

In addition to what was mentioned above, members of the Green Alliance conducted podcasts together with support of the Radio Azattyk, where our colleagues had the opportunity to respond to questions related to climate change and environmental protection issues. A TV program Zhashyl Aiyl Charba (Green agriculture) was launched on national TV, which is conducted jointly between KTRK (Kyrgyz national TV corporation), Ministry of Agriculture, Green Alliance KG and Association of Agro-Industrial Complex Development, and GIZ acts as supporting partner. Also, quarterly digest (review of activities of our Alliance members) was launched.

The Green Alliance KG has invited organizations with similar values as new members, since our main mission, as our slogan says, is to unite people, ideas and opportunities. We are pleased that organizations and companies such as Aleyne Plus, THERMOFLEX, Kurama Story Lab, El-Too Public Institution, Open Innovations, Enterprise Business Solutions, Evidence Group, Doscredobank, and Bridges Hotel have become our full members in 2022. Each of them is making great contributions as part of our overall mission, and we all appreciate those contributions. We will continue to attract new members to our team in 2023 as well.

Partnership and cooperation remain a priority our mission. In this vein, the Green Alliance signed memoranda of cooperation (mutual understanding) with Kyrgyz Economic University named after M. Ryrskulbekov, Green Finance Center Bishkek, Institute for Economic Policy Research, and Kyrgyz State Technical University named after I. Razzakov. We are convinced that in this way our activities will be able to produce more productive results within the framework of our common interests.

I would, particularly, like to mention that the tragic events of September in the Batken province in connection with the military aggression by Tajikistan’s dictator could not leave members of the Green Alliance intact. During these difficult days for the country, we organized an action to provide humanitarian aid to the victims in Batken province. In total, we were able to provide necessary goods and items equivalent of some  400,000 soms. Green Alliance collaborated with the “Bizdin Bishkek” movement in collecting and promptly transporting aid to damaged Batken villages. I am very thankful to each person, organization and member of Green Alliance KG that donated with kindness in heart and mind. Our help may, perhaps, be not that huge, but we are proud that we were at least able to provide support as much as we could, both to the affected civilians and to the military defending our borders.

We have joined the National Alliance of Business Associations (NABA). We are convinced that our membership in NABA KR will provide positive conditions for strengthening the green agenda together with colleagues and people sharing our values. We also hope that through this platform we can unite in the promotion of green initiatives, involving relevant stakeholders.

We collaborated with many stakeholders and partners throughout 2022, and we would like to express our gratitude to Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Ministry of Agriculture, Investment Council under the Ministers’ Cabinet, United Nations Development Program, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), and many other organizations and experts who were with us and contributed to green agendas in 2022.

Dear colleagues and supporters of green initiatives,

At the end of December (23.12.2022) we held our final meeting where members the Green Alliance KG were invited. The executive body provided a report on the work done, and those whose contributions were meaningful to the community and our shared mission were honored with letters of appreciation.

Below, I would like to express my acknowledgment to several members of Green Alliance KG for demonstrated high level of activism in 2022. I must also admit that each member of our Alliance, including those who are not mentioned here, had contributed very well to promoting green initiatives and agenda within their own level and capacity, which I am aware of and do deeply appreciate.

Doscredobank, under the chairmanship of Cholpon Eshberdiyeva, has not only become the only bank – a member of the Green Alliance, but also the bank that more successfully promotes green services in the financial sector in Kyrgyzstan. Under the DCB Green project of Doscredobank, the Bank actively offers green lending for electric cars, installation of gas equipment and introduction of energy-saving green technologies in the tourism sector as few to mention. Most recently, Doscredobank opened the first electric charging station for electric cars in Boom gorge on half-way to Yssyk-Kul, where drivers can use it completely free of charge.
